Case Planning

As with anything structural, aesthetic or both it makes sense to plan properly. This will provide a consistent outcome while understanding the possible pitfalls before they occur. Case planning for dental restorations is no different.

Implant Planning

Omni Dental has over 5 years of experience working hand in hand with specialists all over the Australia planning placements of implants. Using the latest in CAD/CAM technology we can align all the necessary scans for your patients implant case and plan the position of the implant alongside you while providing input into the restorative options post integration.

To start an implant planning case we require you to provide:

  • Current surface scans or study models
  • Current CT scans in DICOM format
  • Instructions on position of implant/implants
  • Desired implant fixture type
  • Information on which guided implant kit you will be using

2D Smile Design

Visual smile designs

These are used predominantly as an initial communication tool to discuss with the patient what outcomes are sought after.

What we require:

  • Facial photo smiling
  • Facial Photo Retracted (On the same angle as the previous smile photo)
  • Instruction on improvements of the smile

3D Digital Smile Designs

Using the visual smile design or importing facial photos into our CAD software we are able to create a realistic understanding of what the final restorations will look like. Using tools to measure margin heights, widths and occlusion we can provide a 3d printed wax up that couples with the visial smile design the further enhance communications to clearly identify what the outcome will be before any irreversible treatment has started.

  • Facial photo smiling
  • Facial Photo Retracted (On the same angle as the previous smile photo
  • Instruction on improvements of the smile and any limitation of reduction
  • Surface scans or study models

Try in Mock-up

Provided the smile design is additive in nature it may help to request a try in mockup which will allow the clinician to duplicate the wax up in the patients mouth to assist with communication as well as a guide for the required preparation of the underlying teeth.

  • Facial photo smiling
  • Facial Photo Retracted (On the same angle as the previous smile photo)
  • Instruction on improvements of the smile and any limitation of reduction
  • Surface scans or study models

Full arch implant cases

Full arch cases do not have to be difficult. Systematic planning to provide a roadmap for treatment is the key.

From the diagnostic stage Omni will design a smile using out CAD software taking into account the current situation biologically and balance the desired aesthetic and functional outcome.

Information gathering is extremely important during these planning stages so be sure to take note of these points before you submit a case

  • Facial photo smiling
  • Facial Photo Retracted
  • Current vertical opening.
  • Desired vertical opening. To record this measurement Omni can provide a bite block or if the patient has enough stable remaining teeth place wax in between the teeth and take a bite record at the correct vertical. Take a measurement with the Willis gauge and record.
  • Make not of the occlusal relationship of the maxilla and mandible and not any adjustments on display and prominence of the upper anteriors.Provide a surface scan or study models
  • Provide a recent CT scans in DICOM format.

From there we will produce a 3D digital diagnostic wax up taking all information into account and start implant planning.

If implant planning is not necessary we will utilise this 3D wax up to create guides for the placement of implants and multi-unit abutments.

Complex combination cases (fixed and removable)

For patients that require multi-disciplinary work we can plan and design fixed and removable prosthetics at the same time to achieve the aesthetic and functional outcome desired.
To achieve this please provide:

  • Facial photo smiling
  • Facial Photo Retracted
  • Current vertical opening.
  • Desired vertical opening. To record this measurement Omni can provide a bite block or if the patient has enough stable remaining teeth place wax in between the teeth and take a bite record at the correct vertical. Take a measurement with the Willis gauge and record.
  • Make not of the occlusal relationship of the maxilla and mandible and not any adjustments on display and prominence of the upper anteriors.
  • Provide a surface scan or study models
